Tea Time {ginger + lime + nutmeg}
From the start of September to the end of April, I’m continuously searching for ways to stay warm. Maybe it’s my low blood pressure, my slightly below average body temperature, or maybe I’m part reptile. Regardless of the reason, I require teas, soups, blankets, and wool socks to be administered on a regular basis. My current go-to tea is a spicy and soothing ginger, lime and nutmeg blend. In addition to warming you up, this tea is also great for digestion – something that will surely come in handy with Thanksgiving only a few days away.
You’ll need:
- 1 1/2 cups of water
- 1/2 inch piece of ginger root (I don’t go through a ton of ginger, so to make it last longer I keep it in the freezer)
- Juice from 1/2 lime
- Freshly grated nutmeg
- Microplane (this little one would do the trick, mine is a bit of overkill)
- Tea kettle or pot ( I love my teapot from Le Creuset)
Slice ginger into thin strips and place into the teapot along with your water.
Once your teapot tells you it’s ready, take it off the heat and allow to steep. I let it go for about 10 minutes. While it’s steeping you can get your lime juice ready.
Pour the tea over a strainer into your mug and then add your lime juice.
I love the nutmeg addition, it adds a bit of bite and makes this drink even more powerful against upset stomachs.
The shavings fall through the microplane, flavor the tea and settle to the bottom. I used around 1/4 tsp.
Let it cool a bit and then enjoy!
Note: if you’re using a traditional mug instead of an old salsa jar, you can probably do without the towel.
