Homemade Deodorant {six ingredients}
The idea of aluminum based compounds and parabens seeping into my skin got me to switch to Tom’s of Maine deodorant a couple of years ago. Now, the idea of rubbing petro-chemicals (found in Tom’s of Maine) into my skin has started to bother me. So, after finding a recipe for homemade deodorant on Apartment Therapy last week, I decided to give it a try.
Melt the two in the microwave, stirring every 20 seconds. It took about a minute total.
Add the remaining ingredients.
It turned into such a light and fluffy mixture that was easy to spoon into an empty deodorant container.
After filling the container, I placed it in the freezer as per the instructions. This was supposed to make it set more quickly. I took it out after 20 minutes and had a slight issue.
I’m not sure what caused the little concave space, maybe it set too quickly. But, it was easy enough to fix. I just let it sit at room temperature for 20 minutes and then twisted the deodorant stick up and used a spoon to level it off.
Then, I had some left over Avery label paper from my Homemade Glass+ Surface Cleaner, so I made a quick and cute label.
You can see the original recipe here.
I would love to hear how this works out for you! I’m on the hunt for a safer deodorant, but am hesitant about testing them out…especially in public.
Happy to be the guinea pig – I will update you!
