A weekend spent digging holes {the story of a fence}

This past weekend my father and my husband installed a fence at the back of our property. I’m not great at digging holes or carrying heavy things so I sat this one out and instead fed them à la The Pioneer Woman. Regardless of my actual contribution, I’m thrilled to have the fence so I wanted to share their work. Also worth sharing, a meal from this weekend, a fantastically delicious and simple paleo lasagna (link to original recipe below).

Set up to Succeed

Back in April we added raised beds to our garden. The idea of having warmer soil temperatures, control of soil quality and fewer weeds appealed to us. Since then, we’ve made even more changes to our garden to make it easier and more fun to grow our own food.

For the past two years, my husband and I have been using a 22′  x 15′ garden located toward the end of our property. Aside from four walls (made from free fencing found curbside!), this space has been sort of an unwieldy blank canvass. This season I started my research early and found some great resources making a strong case for using raised beds, so we decided to go for it. The whole project set us back around $350…wood and dirt are surprisingly expensive.
